Should I go 12 monthly or 18 monthly on the mobile contract

    Folks,

    I have no intention off getting a land line in so my only option is mobile braodband. The cheapest contract obviously is to go with a 18 month contratc, I plan to use the braodband at the week ends only for genreal surfing, e-mail etc. I don't plan to donwload files and I was thinking off going with the 3 contarct for 1Gb allowance per month. Do you suggest I should commit to the 12 or 18 month contract. Any opinions would be appreciated. By the way I live in the north Dublin (Skerries area) so any advice on the 3 connectivity in this area if anyine has experience would be appreciated.

    How much will you save on the modem? An 18 month contract versus 12 months will cost you €60 more on that package. You can probably upgrade to their 15 GB package at any time, but check this first, in case you need more later.

    Most people could easily use up 1gb a week browsing checking emails etc is there a 7.5gb option?

    1GB is nothing. Tying yourself into a 12 or 18 month contract with such a low cap is madness. 18 month contracts are madness either way. Get as low a contract as you can. The price of the modem should be a pittance now anyway. Get the cheapest one available.

    1GB contract is madness unless you 0 the credit limit on your account to make sure you don't get caught for over usage. B260a would be the best choice as reception is pretty good on it.
    On a 12mt contract you get an upgrade after 10mts and it's 16mts on an 18mt contract. You better off taking the hit on the price of the modem the first time and getting a 12mt contract. If you go for the 30gb option is drops the price of the modem on a 12mt.

    Big difference in maximum speed, which you will never get on a mobile network nayway. Any modem will do 7.6Mbps, which is more than adequate, as it's unlikely he'll even get near that speed. Some modems offer higher upload capability, but again that's the maximum available, and not the likely speed achieved.

    Get the cheapest modem, on the smallest contract, with the largest cap you can get/afford.

    It's not about a maximum speed which your very unlikely to get, it's about getting the best possible speed and reception, I've tested a lot of modems and the b260 comes out tops for speed, not 7.2 but it gives 3mb where an e122 would give about 1.5mb or less. The modem does matter, if you use the USB cable with the e122 it also makes a difference, there finicky things at the best of times you may get the best you can afford.
