In P/City blanch i was there about 9.05 - 9.15 approx. They opened the doors at 9.30 and i got the samsung tv.

Sat morning and sun were a different story as more people heard about it, were off work, ect

Any idea of Powercity Coolock opening times tomorrow?

Normally 10am I believe but is it 8am like PC World for the bargains?

Well, did anyone head over after? Was over at 7 and there was already 80 to 100 people there so drove straight back out again.Power City a better option then??

Got the 32 inch telly in power city today.
Got there around 8.45, there was only about 10 people in the queue at that stage.
They gave out vouchers for the telly to the first 20 people. The store opened at 9.30. I'd imagine that people will be there earlier tomorrow.

I was in B&Q in Airside last night and there was a queue forming for Currys at about 8:15pm. I assumed it was for some Xbox or Playstation game with a midnight launch.

I'm sorry, but even if they were giving tvs away for free I wouldn't be queuing overnight!

Got my tv in power city. Was there at 820 expecting big crowds. Not many there. Someone behind me came from pc world said there was massive q's. Thanks op

Arrived at Power City at about 8:30. My brother and I were number ten and eleven in the queue. Power City worker came out at about 9:10 and handed out slips to every one in line for the TV. We both got our TVs and I must say they are superb.

Went out to PC World/Curries this morning @ 7am hoping to pick up one of the Toshiba laptops for €299. There were maybe around 150 people already in the queue with one guy there since 11am yesterday morning! Sadly though at around 7.30 they announced that all the laptops were gone as were most of the good deals.

Harvey Normans a few doors up had a small queue for similar bargains so I joined their queue and managed to pick up an Acer laptop for €349 (down from €529) so I'm happy. There was a bit of a scuffle when they opened the doors at 8am and it got a bit nasty for a minute as the poor security guy struggled with the door. The first 20 or so people made a mad dash for the electrical department where it almost descended into fisticuffs at the counter for a minute until they calmed themselves down! Methinks people are starting to loose the run of themselves - the reductions were hardly worth resorting to mob rule......

I dunno, its a bit late and to loose a second lie in on the trot is a bit harsh.

Seriously, queuing up all night just for a telly? There is a price you can't put on dignity, some folks would happily give it up for a hundred euro or whatever.

I have to wonder whether these lunatics were just marketing staff hired by Curry's to give the impression of there being something worth getting in such a frenzy for. FWIW I got the leaflet thru the door, very few offers on the table you can't get at other times during the year if you have a little patience.

But hey, if sleeping rough is what some folks want to do to save a few quid, who am I to argue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,556 ✭✭✭Slunk

Why would they put marketing staff out. That would encourage more people who were willing to spend money to turn away seeing the big q's. I was happy queing little over an hour to get my TV in power city. Sleeping overnight is a bit much though.

Just missed out this morning in Power City. Arrived at 7.30 and was 23 in the queue. Everyone in front of me wanted the 32in Samsung. Wonder what time they will start queing in the morning

I was #16 in the queue and got meself one in Powercity :) Arrived around 20 past 7 (ugh) and a few quickly followed. I musta seen yez Doodee and Dancor (one of a few in-'ah feck'-out drivers, heheheh).

I've never seen so many simultaneous looks of contempt as when 3 people drove in - who knew the bunch of guys at the front - and went over to them. Though as we found out a good bit later they were just there for transport, much to everyone's relief! :D

Most people were in great spirits (I had a few spirits last night so wasn't one of them!) There was even a guy who went along the queue asking what they were gonna get (all tellies), the the missus walking along asking which size telly :pac:

So it looks like we saved between €150 and €240 depending on where you check the prices!

    It is what it's.

How does the ticket system work in Power City, once you get a ticket saying you've got your TV can you go over and sit in Burger King or whatever til it opens?

So if queuing up for tomorrow, with a 12pm opening, what time would one have to be there to secure a top 20 spot? :(

Was up there earlier, went up about 10 on the offchance (was told yesterday they'd be handing coupons out before 11.30). At 11.15 they handed them out & I missed out by five. The girl in front of me however had been there from 6.30am & there were seven asian guys at the front of the queue who'd been there all night (sleeping bags, flasks, stools etc). Nice TV, great for the price. Hope those who got it enjoy it.

    Heh.
I decided to sleep in rather than head up, hence the post.
Wonder if they would give you a similar discount on one if you were buying other appliances.

Was at Powercity in Coolock today - headed out with the OH and got there at 8.05am, were 13 or 14 in the queue, another person showed at 8.25 and then it went quiet for about an hour. Just setting the tv up now... I dread to think what time person #1 was there at if we were that far back with four hours before opening :-/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭oneweb

Can anyone tell me if the base is supposed to have more than 3 little pins sticking out - mine looks like there's supposed to be a big one in the middle that's broken off (it might just be part of how it was made).

    It is what it's.

If anyone wants to sell their TV(which i doubt), I'm willing to offer a €250 Argos/Homebase gift card.

I bought one for the folks in Blanch a couple of Sundays ago, I arrived at 7.20 and was person no. 20, It's my sister's birthday on Friday so I decided to pick one up for her this weekend. I decided to play it safe and arrived this morning at 6.30, person No. 1 had arrived at 6. Anyone arriving before 8.30!!!! would have been in the first 20. The chap who was first told me lived across the road from Airside and the queues were insane as he was leaving for Coolock. I don't understand how so many could have heard of the Currys promo but not the Power City one, especially as this is the second one.Two weeks ago In Blanch I went to Currys first at 7.15 and was no. 63 in the queue, I said to someone I was talking to that I was trying my luck in Power City, none of them even knew about it, thank God. Currys advertised theirs more and maybe had more products on offer. Even at 11.30 today there was only 30-odd people in the queue. Where is people's nose for a bargain! Bring on a PS3 offer:D
