I keep getting conflicting reports about what is actually available around Limerick City and County as it seems there has been 'test signals' broadcast for quite some time.

I was hoping this might give a clear picture of what available, where it can be received and when it became available.

    - No point in having two threads (ie. Limerick County Forum) and am actually interested in where its available and at what quality in Limerick County due to the large area etc. so please post if you are out in the Sticks.

Template for replies as below - Add any other details ya like.
    • Where are you?:
    • What Ariel? (Indoor, Attic, Roof):
    • What Decoder? (Set-top, Integrated in TV):
    • How long has it been available:
    • How do you rate the picture/sound quality out of 10?:
    • Any recommendations on what Kit to buy?:

P.S. I understand that this is a moot point for any Sky Subscriber etc. etc. - Am just interested, so if its not for you please just pass it by.......

I recently bought a LCD TV, not a huge one just one for a bedroom...and of course the guy sellin it to me advised buying a VHF/UHV (sp?) aerial to go with it (or I wouldnt get any reception, so he said). So I got it set up and was surprised to find I had RTE1, 2, TG4, RTE News Now digital channels, plus a whole lot of radio stations. (no TV3, no loss!)

So it was working fine for about a month (apart from when somebody passed my bedroom door it would flicker a bit)....but the last week or so its gone to sh1t. Cant figure out why, didnt move aerial or anything....so I've tuned in the normal analogue stations, which are still pretty good reception, with the exception of TG4 which I watch a lot.

That just my experience, not sure if that helps....moral of the story I suppose is that bedroom aerials are gonna be hit and miss!

Edit: I'd give it an 8/10 - hell of a lot better than what I had, but obviously not up there with HD!

The Digital Terrestrial Trials (DTT) to be named Saorvieware due to finish up by October and after this time, the main Irish channels as well as a host of new ones will be added to the lineup.

The digital signal is stronger than that of its Analog counterpart, so where an analog signal is bad it may be perfect in Digital.

At present system is working, but only Rte1,2, TG4, and Rte News are visible as well as 2 testcards, and approx 14 music channels.

In order to receive the Trials you will need either a Tv with build in MPEG4 tuner, or set-top box or alternatively a Mpeg4 compatible card for a pc.

Personally I would hang on a few more weeks until the Saorview certification has been released as there is no guarantee that products that work 2day wont when the trial ends.

    These will include
    1.Rte 1
    2. Rte2
    3. Tv3
    4. TG4
    5. News24(Rte news repeated)
    6. Oireachtas channel
    7. TRTE (Kids)
    8. Euronews
    9 3E

Depending on where you live will depend on what type of Aerial system you will require.Post where you are and I will help if I can. Anyone with a UHF aerial will not require to change their aerial in 99% of cases..

    Hope that helps.

Comes with a small aerial and works great! on my laptop (Windows Vista)
You can time shift, time your recordings and has PNP asd it is a dual tuner. Got it up in the bargin section near the back desk.

Limited channels at the moment but if the list is going to expand it will be great!

    and was only €40

Where are you? Clareview, Ennis Road.
What Ariel? (Indoor, Attic, Roof): New ariel on roof recently installed.
What Decoder? (Set-top, Integrated in TV): Integrated into LG Television.
How long has it been available: Bought telly around 4 months ago but friend has it in Caherdavin since January and another friend in Alandale, Dock Road since last year.
How do you rate the picture/sound quality out of 10?: 10/10 RTE is actually better than on Sky if you ask me.
Any recommendations on what Kit to buy?: Don't know what kit as i just have the TV but i think the new ariel put up was just a basic tv antenna

Thanks all who have replied so far, and especially Jofspring for getting the response thing (!!!) and steveon who I should point out has been recommended here on Boards.ie countless times as a top notch TV/Satellite/Broadband Guru so give him a call and support our own ;)

Edit* @ CCSL - Would you mind posting a Brand/Model Number when you can please? - Did you reckon it was clearance stock or do you think they may usually be available for €40?
