I would advise not even looking at the latest RTE film review page - not only is the review semi-spoilerish but the Goddamn *synopsis* of it which is impossible to avoid seeing is semi-spoilerish! Goddamn amateurs over there.

Definitely looks interesting. With this much hype it's a must see just to figure out if it's justified or not!

It's got a modern day western vibe going that looks promising.

I've been really looking forward to seeing this. It was out in the US in what, June? I think it's out on DVD there next month. And we're only getting it now.

Some films are ridiculous with staggered release dates. Black Dynamite just had a years gap between US and Irish release!

This looks interesting alright - Sundance pedigree isn't always reliable, but definitely will be watching this over the next week or so. Plus, it has that guy from Lost whose name I forget, although IMDB has kindly reminded me it's John Hawkes!

There's a big article on this film in The Ticket today.

Watched this today, and I was impressed. I always worry when films get hyped up as something special, as it can often lead to high expectations. This, though, is a very good film. The atmosphere just gets under your skin; a sense of bubbling tension and the constant thread of that escalating into something more just made me feel uncomfortable the whole time (in a good way of course). It's basically the story of a community gone wrong: everyone knows what's going on, but no one talks about it, until one girl starts questioning it. Jennifer Lawrence is definitely worthy of the praise, as a seventeen year old dealing with serious **** with a strong will and sense of frustration.
Her one break down scene is crushing, as she just doesn't deserve to be in this situation.
Great support from the rest of the cast too. Mostly you're here for the atmosphere, though, which is slow paced, considered and very effective. It feels like a natural sort of tension, the resolutions not the predictable ones you'd imagine, and far more satisfying as a result.

I'm not going to say it lives up to the hype, because I hate hype. But IMO this is a very good film indeed: a thoughtful, character based thriller that keeps you engaged over the course of a dark, all too early coming-of-age story.
