Engine and gearbox are tried and tested at this stage as they has been around since around 2004. This engine is also used in the Citroen C3/C4, Ford Fiesta/Focus, Mazda 3, Peugeot 207/308/407, Volvo S40/V50/S80 and now the BMW MINI.

Have no experience of the C5 but I've had that engine in a Focus and currently in the S40 and with over 80k miles covered on both cars neither has given any trouble with the engine. My only concern would be performance of the engine in a car the size and weight of the C5. It struggles in the S40 and that is a smaller car than the C5.

talking to a taxi driver and he said the 1.6 diesel is very under powered in the c5 , brother in law has the 2.0 diesel lovely car to drive plenty of power

A 1.6 turbo diesel is fine in the c5, my uncle put 90k on an 04 one that he replaced with an 09 one, he had a 626 turbo diesel before and he reckoned the 04 c5 was better for over taking, have a good spin in one, I would think you will be happy, what are you driving at the mo ? Don't think either have put a foot wrong for him, the 09 model is gorgeous I think
