Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know where I can get a section of flue made up? I moved the boiler, still have the old 'silencer' which went out thru the wall, need a 90degree elbow about a foot long in both directions to come up from the boiler, turn and mate with the silencer or whatever its called which goes out the wall, made in approx 5inch pipe to fit.

Sorry its a 10-20 yr old kerosene boiler.

Silencer, what make of boiler is it, not an Audi quattro circa 1990? :D

Sorry couldnt resist, it is normally required that the first bend is no more than 600mm from the boiler so check with the manufacturer then find your local plumbing supplier and see what stock he has. You will need an elbow and two section that will suit both the boiler and outlet flue sections.

From dunboyne your best bet is either Excel industries in coolmine or EI Flues...

Excel usually only deal with the trade but i think they are a bit more relax on flu as they know its hard to get.

Have an idea before you ring what you want...

ie.. Single walll or Double Wall

    Stainlees steel or galvanised.

    6" or 8"

    You catch the drift.

great suggestions there thanks to all, might try goin to excel so if theyre so close but heres another few questions regarding the last post above

    1. the old flue (long gone - dont ask) was single wall, whats the advantage of double?

    2. old one was stainless, would galvo do if its cheaper?

    3. the mating tube on the old 'silencer' was 5", is that obsolete?

    4. whats the real name for that silencer so that I can stop makin a fool of meself

    1. the old flue (long gone - dont ask) was single wall, whats the advantage of double?

Its not hot to touch... Great if you have kids around or animals. Also its easier to seal if it goes out through roofs as there is no change in temperature

    2. old one was stainless, would galvo do if its cheaper? Galv is cheaper but stainless is longer lasting

    3. the mating tube on the old 'silencer' was 5", is that obsolete? Have not a clue sorry

    4. whats the real name for that silencer so that I can stop makin a fool of meself, Believe it or not i think like a car its a muffler but believe me most people call the cowl a china mans cap so dont worry about making yourself look a fool

The part that goes though the wall is usually referred to as the terminal, most flue material is stainless to cope with corrosive flue gases and high temperature, though they use plastic on some condensing boilers as flue gases are cooler on these. Single wall is used internally and twin wall externally to stop flue gases cooling. You must make sure that you seal between each flue section, a good plumbing supplier will have everything you need. Makes sure that everything is well sealed as there is always the risk of carbon monoxide as a result of poor combustion, hope this helps :)
