Nintendo DS Homebrew thread

    Can we get one?

I finally ordered a DS and DSTWO so I can play some nifty stuff on the go.

First off, I want to try some Touhou DS.

It'll probably be a nightmare playing on a tiny screen, maybe I should have gotten an XL :)

I'm also considering writing a visual novel for the DS, that could be fun.

No DS Flashcard chat allowed here (see sticky at top of forum).

Since its homebrew I'll allow it for now, but I (or Retr0gamer) may move it to the Console Modding forum if the mood takes us (or if this thread goes off track!)

It's not really flash card discussion, you could run these on an emulator or whatever too. If it was in the console modding forum it probably wouldn't get much attention since it's about DS games/apps exclusively.

    Thanks for understanding.

I think homebrew is perfectly fine for discussion. This poster isn't on about piracy and also isn't filling the forum up with 'where can I/how do I' questions about flashcards which is why I implimented it in the first place. Fire away OP unless Mr E has objections?

No objections here.... as I said in my last post, since its homebrew, its OK.
If it derails to flash card discussion, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

So whats good in homebrew these days? I haven't really used my DS for a while (that'll change when the new Prof Layton game comes out over here!)

SCUMMVM is great but I prefer the Wii version since you get full resolution.

Mainly I want to try Touhou DS, some VNs, SCUMMDS and a few other things(fan games and stuff). I got very excited about homebrewn stuff but now I think about it, I don't know much about it. But I like DS and I loved the Dreamcast homebrewn stuff back in the day so I'm putting 2 and 2 together.

If anyone has any awesome indie games for DS please post them here.

I wasn't too impressed with SCUMMVM on the DS when I tried it, but might give it another go. Never actually tried it on the Wii though, so that might be worth a go!

I don't really have any interest in those crazy TouHou games, as I just find them frustrating.

To be honest, I'm surprised that there aren't more rhythm action homebrew games, along the likes of Elite Beat Agents, and it's prequel (I'm no good with Japanese, so not even going to try the name!). I thought there would be homebrew copies of that kind of game, but I guess perhaps too much is involved with that, and programming the songs and the requires taps/swipes.

Has that been fan translated actually? It'd be fun to play. I loved EBA.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan you mean (and its sequel)? No idea about being translated, but it's really not necessary to understand what's going on in order to play them!
