    Hey all,
Do you know if you need receipts/bills for this?
In my part of the country (westmeath) people just buy tags in the local shop - I looked through the paye site but didn't see any point saying you specifically needed receipts - just that the maximum claim was 400......

    Hi there,
On most tags there is a detachable section which you keep and fill in the date you used and your PPS number. While you don't have to send them in with your claim, you are obliged to keep them for a specified length of time - afaik it is 7 years, in case they audit you.
That said though, the last time i bought a tag it was a reusable cable tie type thing with a barcode on it, with nothing to keep to prove you had it, and was going to contact the company/revenue to ask how i was to prove my expenditure if the revenue queried my claim?

    Hey Eimear,
If you do ring the revenue soon about that one, let me know how you get on...

    Hi there,
Waste company rang me back just now. They advised to get a till receipt from the shop, but i'm not sure this is gonna work cos my local shop don't put this through the till its just in an ice-cream box under the counter! Anyway she tells me that this is not gonna be a problem for very long cos the tax relief is being done away with at the end of this year anyway - thats why they started using these tags as they will soon no longer need to have receipts/stubs!
Can't wait for next budget, see how many more creative/sneaky ways the govt can find to take my money!!! Better stop writing or i might get into a rant, anyway hope the info is helpful,
    Eimear

Based solely on my experience- the Revenue staff didn't request the tags from me. I'm in the southwest tax region.

I'm purely guessing with this but maybe as the credit is relatively small that they will concessionally grant it on request without taking a fistful of used bin tags [what would they do with them?], particularly if you have been receiving the credit in prior years.

Technically, you are required to retain the tags for inspection for multiple years [5 or 7?]but - and again based solely on my experience- I don't think that they will come after you to get them.
