I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with this film. The pacing was really off and it just seemed really rushed. You are never allowed to adapt to any of the big milestones before something else happens. So when the fall of the band actually occurs you don't really care because the film never devotes enough time to the actual highs of the band. It's as if the high happens, lasts literally a few minutes, and then it all ends in tears.

It just didn't strike a chord with me at all.

Michael Shannon and Kristen Stewart were the only standouts of the film. But even in the case of Stewart's character, Joan Jett, no real time is devoted to the lows she experiences before she bounces back. The character is just poorly developed, ditto in regards to Fanning's character.

It's a very lightweight film it has to be said.

Got to disagree; I really enjoyed this movie, although I do agree the character of Joan Jett could have been expanded on as for me she was the real success story of the band. This oversight can however be explained by the fact that the fil is an adaption of a book by Cherie Currie vocalist for the band which is why the film focuses on her.

I thought Currie's character was well established throughout; not fitting in or being accepted at school or at home to finally finding a family of sorts within the band.

Enjoyed the camera work also; in particular one scene where their performing on stage is worked as though its an actual music video; to some of the 'trippy' scenes i'd mention mention others but it would ruin the movie and I don't know how to use spoilers.
