Bit of advise need in relation to Accountants fee. my company turn over is down from €15m to €4m and staff down from 40 to 8, my accountant is sticking to his guns and will not drop his fees by much, he says there is still a lot of work to be done and there is a stantard fee for doing a companies accounts regardless of turn over. any ideas??

Can you not get quotes from other accountants - this will give you an idea of how reasonable his fees are.

It's hard to give specific advice from the info given, but unless your accountant gave you a discounted rate last year you would most likely have a case to get reduced fees this year.

Your accountant may have the same amount of work to do or it may not be reduced by much. But considering the info you gave it's likely he would need to be more understanding.

    Fees depend on many factors.
    The main factor is time.
If the time he has to put in has not changed then the fee will not change.
I hope you are asking this question before he starts the accounts.
    Is it accounts or audit?
What level are the accounts completed to?
If you want a guide line of the fee you can pm me details.

Unless your accountant does the bookkeeping, the time (and by extension fees) needed to prepare/audit accounts wouldnt really change I would imagine.

As a practicing accountant, my view is that my relationship with my clients is for the long term and where my clients are suffering I also expect to suffer. You, no doubt have had to adjust your business practices to take account of the current business climate. Accountants must also adapt whilst continuing to provide a top class service. Some no doubt will continue to operate without adapting and expect that there will be no impact on fee levels. They are not living in the real world in my opinion. My advice to you is to look around and get quotes for the service you require. I would be pleased to assist you if you wish me to do so, just let me know.

I too am unhappy with our accountancy fees atm.

I would like to see if the fees would stay the same had your turnover gone from 4-15m! I do not think so.
