On similar note, I bought 3 heavy lambs off a mate last month in the field. He delivered to the abbatoir, and brought them back in a cardboard box :D
I bagged them, and lobbed them in the freezer. €110 each.
He made a few € more and I saved a few € plus I know I am eating good stuff.

I used to buy half a pig for the freezer - it cost €100. Got a lot of pork chops, fillets and round roasts for it - all bagged and ready for the freezer. Recon if I was buying the same amount in a supermarket I could pay up to €300 for it. never went for teh bacon option from the butcher as i would have no storage or it.

I assume you paid the abbatoir for that price?

Thats great stuff whelan, any harm asking about profitability and the set up must have taken a fair investment.

    Does he take cash??

Great to see someone taking the initiative like that. I hope it's a success for him.
