MTV orders two scripted comedys

Fair play to MTV for creating non "reality" shows and more scripted stuff, RJ Berger was a nice surpise.

MTV has commissioned two new half-hour comedy series for the upcoming season.

Deadline reports that both That Girl and Death Valley have received a 12-episode order.

Created by Lauren Lungeric, That Girl is described as "an irreverent look at the conflict, chaos and comedy that is contemporary teenage life through the eyes of 15-year-old Jenna Hamilton". The pilot episode was helmed by 30 Rock director Millicent Shelton. MTV executive David Janollari described writer Lungeric as "one of the most authentic young female writers [around]".

Meanwhile, horror comedy Death Valley will follow a team known as the Undead Task Force as they battle zombies, vampires and werewolves. The series will feature Mad Men actress Caity Lotz and former Lost star Tania Raymond. Janollari praised the pilot, calling it "a very inventive... comedy".

"Our goal creatively is diversity," he continued. "To offer choices with drama, comedy, animation and, of course, reality."

Janollari added that MTV is currently developing a number of other scripted projects and is planning to order more pilots in the next few months.

I wonder if MTV will ever go back to playing music and music related programming.

^ nope...no money in it. MTV have numerous music channels, MTV1 is all reality crap like Teen Mon, 16 & Pregnant etc. The Hills and The City are dead....Jersey Shore is a huge hit for them (sic)....but i'm glad they are moving away from the (scripted/fake) "reality" shows to more original programming, but i suspect they'll still program for the tween/teen demo.

Teen Wolf and Skins are also upcoming + season 2 of RJ Berger + they make MTV movies.

Never seen supernatural but I thought of Reaper when I read the description. Either way, i'm sure it'll be wholly un-original :P
The former sounds like it'd fit nicely at home on nikelodeon or the disney channel

Very true,but I think that could be said of alot of channels on Sky Uk nowadays.
They are all showing the same reality tv ,fly on the wall ,property improvement drivel.
There is no variety in programming anymore.
I was going through the epg Monday night and I was shocked to see how much crap was on.I struggled to find anything of any real quality .
Who watches all that garbage ?
