I kinda have the feeling that any VOLUNTEER service IS BETTER because the person IS DOING IT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO!

Doing something BECAUSE YOUR GETTING PAID sometimes results in lack of QUALITY in service and when it comes to EMERGENCY SERVICES,you dont want that!!

What are your guys opinions on it?

So if you are getting paid for providing an emergency service it means you don't actually want to do it and by default affects the quality of the service?

Interesting logic.Very weird.. but interesting all the same

Dude - I'm all for free speech and voicing our opinions but I think the phrase "lack of QUALITY in service " is a bit.............................. far from the truth?

A lot of the people who get paid actually volunteer to train the volunteers and it is all about "Best Practice" if you volunteer or get paid. Fair enough moral might be low some times but the Quality of Service always stays high.

i think i can see where he's coming from the op that is. but volunteer services dont do emergency work.

and ive yet to meet a paramedic who doesnt love his job or who thinks its the best job in the world.

Glad you are not my boss. You have me sussed out, I hate the job, do it for all the money I can get.

You'd be much better to get a vol amb with someone like a student or computer programmer who does max 4 hours a week to answer your call if you ever have someone with a serious injury or illness as they love the work and I don't have any sense of job satisfaction or pride in my work.

Is this actually a serious thread? smells like trolling to me. Must not get dragged in.... :)

Myself and buzzman are now going to volunteer our services to the HSE free of charge and by doing so increase the quality of the service we provide to the public. :) All donations are greatly welcome. We accept HSE lunch vouchers, Red Bull or cold hard cash.

Ha Ha only in the ES forum would a troll be treated to civil and courteous responses. I think this would suggest that his question has been well and truly addressed

    It isnt.....

Maybe i should have posted this on the general discussions message base,im sorry....

In my experience PEOPLE DO A BETTER JOB IF THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY WANT TO (As in volunteering)

so i have been watching this with the past couple of days and i have to say your entitled to your opinoin i m not not knocking it, but IMO i think that is quiet laughable i have met so many volunteers that are absoultely uselss at the job they are doing and only doing it for the freebies now in saying that there are people out there who are the greatest people i have seen. Are you saying for one second that people in AGS, paramedics, fire services dont want to be doing there job because they are paid and the service they offer is less because they are paid for it  i m a Gr and i m only doing it because i want the full time, because i love it and are you saying that i will suddenly lose interest and not be good in my job if I am to get it all on the bases of i wont be paid for it that boggles my mind. sure if that is the way why dont the goverment stop paying everyone and get people to work for free and the probelms out there will go away:cool:

In my experience people apply for jobs that they want to do...everyone in my station loves their job, and does it to the best of their abilities. So your opinion, whilst you're entitled to it, is insulting and quite frankly you don't know what you're talking about (no offence intended). Are you involved in a voluntary or are you an ES worker?

A lot of us are involved in voluntaries too by the way...so does us training people in the voluntaries result in a lower standard and quality of training and service provision on their behalf?

So by your reckoning if I'm in work one day on a HSE ambulance I'm delivering a lower quality service, but if I volunteer the next day on a voluntary ambulance I'm suddenly doing a better job?

Cop on seriously...oh and STOP SHOUTING!

    Communism?

As for the OP have a wander over to an American EMS board, there are a couple. You will see that there is a lot of back and forth as they have a large population base served by Vols. You will seldom get a paramedic and almost never the skills of an AP/ECP. What you might get in enthusiasm is devastated by the lack of Education and exp.

I would rather when I need someone to have the person who knows and is compared to those who want to know or want to be.

@Dude111 - The amount of sentences in ALL CAPS in your posts is unacceptable because it is entirely unnecessary. I don't believe there is a tenable argument to be had on this subject matter and that's why this thread is now closed.
