im having a bizarre problem with my comp, my audio interface is arriving in the post tomorrow, so i decided just to record (acoustic guitar) through the mic in my laptop just to go over the recording procedure in ableton and stuff... so i start recording to the click and for the first 3 or 4 seconds it sounds fine, and suddenly the sound turns to mush, it goes all squeaky and sounds like its being completely mangled by a dial-up connection or something.
my samples in ableton have been going haywire recently so i assumed it was the program, but then i tried to record in reaper and EXACTLY the same thing happened.
is that strange? that the sound is fine for a few seconds and then suddenly turns to what can only be described as PLURP... i have a samsung laptop which is pretty new, is it just that the souncard is **** maybe?
sorry for the long post just wanted to give as much info as possible.
any help would ease my weary mind,
    thanks,shane

Might be some sort of dynamic volume control with the onboard soundchip - it might be trying to set the volume when it receives its first level (so could explain the error)

Feel free to post a little clip of the clean into mashed audio and we can probably hear what it is if it's not that.

there ya go, you can actually see it in the waveform when it starts to get mangled. its so strange

Ok, sounds fine this end - nothing abnormal there - so locally a problem with your audio output - check and update machines audio drivers from the manufacturers website is first stop probably!

it couldnt be the output because i can hear a specific point where the sound degrades, maybe i didnt give a long enough example, if you listen carefully the stabbing g and c chords sound fine, and then it goes downhill when i switch to the A, which i hold if you get me, heres a clearer one, from reaper this time...

this is just constant strumming no changes whatsoever on my part in loudness or whatever, if this sounds fine ill shave my legs and sell em on ebay!

I'm sure it'll be fine when you get around to using the Audio Interface you've ordered.

Yeah this sounds like some weird 'auto' feature built into the OS - it's trying to either (1) set a volume (2) noise cancel (3) be clever and thinks that you're talking through the mike and add some weird 3d effect to make headphones sound like that are actually speakers.

If you look at your installed programs, there is probably some weird audio effect suite installed.

Will be fine as other said when you get the audio unit :)

I'd say a possibility is feedback internally ? Your output is somehow getting back to your input.
