Have been looking for a part for ages and finally found that Traynors up in Armagh have it. Does anyone know if they deliver parts or do you have to go collect?

They drive a truck with ordered parts down here and you go to certain points at certain times to collect your part.

Where are you based? I picked my part up from the Green Isle hotel in Clondalkin (D22). Very smooth transaction. Very professional outfit.

Another good experience here too, met them at Croke Park. They're dead handy for some of the more rare cars on the road.

just to offer a little balance to the positive reviews...

after reading lots of recommendations on here and elsewhere i ordered a replacement gearbox for my pajero. i know not everything here is their fault, but they've certainly done their bit.

they do a delivery run on a tuesday and a friday that comes through navan & ratoath on its way (i assume) towards dublin (it's probably best to call and confirm to be sure there isn't more than one route), but you need to get your order in before 3pm the previous day (which they didn't tell me until it was too late).

i ordered from them because i knew they had a warranty, unlike a lot of breakers down here, so i figured it was better to use them in case anything went wrong.

unfortunately, the replacement gearbox was losing ATF fluid somewhere and we couldn't fix it, so i had to get another replacement from them which i ordered 4 days in advance.

i got a call the day before the delivery to say that the replacement gearbox was actually the same actual gearbox i had already had off them and that the person who sold it to me had left it as in stock on their system and they re-assigned it to me for delivery even tho i already had it and only noticed when someone went to get it to ready it for the delivery and that the only other replacement they had was sold the day before (2 days after my order was put in) and collected already from their depot and they had no more.

their plan was for me to give back the original replacement to the delivery driver and an envelope with my name and address on it and he would take it with him and as soon as the gearbox was logged back into their stock, they would mail me a refund cheque.

i did my best to let them know exactly how deeply they'd dropped me in the crap, how utterly disappointed i was and how much this was already costing me to have the gearbox repeatedly taken in and out of the car and getting the gearboxes transported to and from their dropoff point, not to mention being stuck without my only form of transport for so long.

a couple of hours later, i got a call back to say that they had managed to find a suitable gearbox in a car that hadn't been broken yet but that their guys were removing it and it would be delivered as originally scheduled which was a bit of a relief, but only narrowly avoided a catastrophe my end. :(

i wasn't actually able to make the collection due to work, so i had to get a friend to collect it and deliver it to the mechanic (who is having to do the work in his spare time at this stage) but it turns out that there were significant cosmetic differences between the original and this second replacement and the mechanic had to strip a bunch of parts from my old gearbox before he could even fit it.

he knew that it was either that or send it back to traynors again and wait for a refund cheque and have to try and source another (3rd) replacement gearbox from elsewhere so the mechanic has just done his best to get everything swapped over.

it's just about done now, but the speedo sensor fitting is slightly different and he's had to get that replaced too and in the meantime he sliced open the palm of his hand working on another car and now has a bunch of stitches to worry about.

in total it's been 5 weeks now due to the part time nature of the work, but the mechanic has now lent me a car until he can get it fixed which takes the sting out somewhat.

i spoke to him yesterday and he's hoping to have it sorted by tomorrow sometime but he can't actually test it until he gets the speedo sensor in so we won't know for sure till then if it's holding ATF fluid and all working properly.

i'm now waiting for some kind of meteor strike on his garage to delay it some more as i'm pretty much convinced that things are going to keep going wrong and i'm never actually going to see my car again. :(

EDIT: just heard back from the mechanic this evening that the 2nd gearbox is fuct too and it's not fixable.

he's going to get onto traynors in the morning and see what can be done. the amount of time, money & inconvenience this has caused (again) means that their warranty isn't worth spit.
