iPhone 4 Data Usage

    Hi,

I'm on Vodafone bill pay but roaming in UK. Vodafone said that it was ok to use my data allowance while roaming until the end of this month at least. Up until a few days ago I had been about 500mb total used. I just looked at the meter in on the phone there and it's telling me 4.1GB sent and 4.5 received:eek:

I have a 2GB allowance...so this could potentially be very, very costly.

The thing is that I use wifi in work and at home and the speed of the 3G network while roaming is pathetic to be honest and I doubt there is any way to rack that amount up on it. I cant get into the Vodafone website (again:rolleyes:) at the moment to check my bill.

Has anyone else had issues with this meter? Does it include wifi usage also?

I'd say it includes wifi. Also that's the total usage and doesn't reset unless u do it or restore

I only have it 3 weeks and am on wifi most of it. Main problem is I'm roaming with it mostly so the charges are scary. I rang Vodafone and they said I've used 0.15 of a gig so that calmed me down a bit!

Must be the counter in the phone I'd imagine. Dont think it includes wifi as I have been using it all last night and this morning and the mobile data count hasnt changed

no wi-fi is not included in the counter

have a look at your phone the Cellular Network Data kind of gives it away ;)

Turn off cellular data and 3g when not in use - it eats you battery and your cash

I'm on a 3Gs but using iOS 4.1, I've never had any issues with it. I'd also disagree with with the fact that cellular data left on will eat your data...

I've got 5 push email accounts constantly connected to 3G and it would rarely clock up 1mb a night.

No it doesn't include wi-fi as I've probably downloaded about 500mb of apps over wi-fi and my meter's only at 180mb.

Not if you have a data bundle. I think the problem here may have been an incorrect reading on the phones data counter for some reason.

You can use DataMan app to monitor your data use in real time. You can also define 4 custom usage thresholds. You will be notified when you exceed the thresholds. This will help to stop additional charges on your bill. You can find DataMan in the App Store.
