Saw a related thread a while ago but that doesn't seem to be attracting much attention. Surprised I haven't seen posts regardin Klaxons' sophomore effort. No doubt you'll recall that the Mercury winners appeared to have a bit of difficulty in recording this album, what with label disapproval and whatnot due to the original recordings non-marketability and overall inaccessible psychedelia. All that just got me intruiged!

So yeah, on to business, initially 'Echoes' did nothing for me, struck me more as a vehicle for a radio-friendly chorus but suffice to say, it has grown on me. The album itself isn't two far removed from their debut. Chaos, anarchy and caterwauling abound on 'STV'. Likely contenders for second single could possibly include 'Twin Flames' and 'Valley of the Calm Trees'. Personal favourite would be the utterly rambunctious 'Surfing The Void', 2:30 of careering slabs of heavy riffing and the burgeoning, quaking basslines we've come to expect from Klaxons.

Any one else have any thoughts on the album?

Certainly was difficult second album syndrome but they eventually got there. saw them preview half of it last year at EP and liked the tracks, Echoes did stick in my head and I could remember the chorus all the way up until it got released which was a good sign.

The album is a mixed bag. It's not a failure but it isn't going to set the world alight the way the first album did. Similar to the new Interpol record, it has a better first half than 2nd. I sort of lose interest listening to it and it all just becomes one song, it doesn't have the variety of the first album which is a pity.

The worst thing about this record is that Echoes actually sounds decent when mixed in wit the rest.

    Pretty big let down.

I think its good alright. Hopefully it will grow on me. I think it just lacks pure choons compared to 'myths of the near future'. Title track is epic though:D
Can't wait to see them in November!
