Is this worth getting? Matthew Macklin is part of it. There is no real standout fight but a couple of half decent fights. I dunno, if im staying in Sat night might actually get it though its hardly worth it really. €21.95 as well.

There are still some cracking fights there but with Barker's pull out I'm now undecided.

imo its one of the best cards i have seen put together even without Macklin vs Barker. Its better value than the usual box office fights where there is only one decent headline fight.

Even with beer it's still cheaper than a night out, I think it will be worth it.

    DeGale hasn't made his weight.

    We'll see what happens...

De Gale made the weight eventually was six ounces over the weight yesterday, he is either not putting the effort in or really struggling to make this weight and will have to move up soon otherwise.

Looks like a good cheap night in, curry beer and boxing happy days. With seven fights on im sure there will be at least a couple of good fights.

Nah I'm not going to bother getting it.

Even if I didn't have a friend who has Sky Box Office, I still wouldn't bother getting it.

Poor Enzo. Likeable fella but that should be it for him, for the sake of his health. Really bad knockout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭colly10

I feel really bad for him, he was in control of the fight and I thought he'd get the German lad out early. That was a seriously brutal KO though, second one was even worse. He practically wobbled up to the guy after the first knockdown, probably the wrong decision by the ref to let him go on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Hope poor Enzo is ok. :( Two heavy heavy knockdowns.

One of the sickest KO's you'll ever see. I'm suprised he even walked out of the ring. Jesus, that boy can punch. Those last few where Tyson-esqe.

Good night of fights; We saw how much potential James De Gale actually has after he crushed, Matthew Hall give us a war for a few rounds before getting stopped and announcing his retirement, Cleverly showing us that he is a class act and an extremely good fighter, Chisora showing that he is a legitimate British level fighter and that he backs up what he says before the fights, Maccrinelli getting badly KO'ed in what must be his last fight and we saw Macklin win the European title

Poor decision to let Enzo fight on. The ref doesnt have an easy job but he looked worse after that first knockdown than he did after Haye. Havent seen it on tv yet but such a bad decision. Frenkel held his celebrations and at the end when the ring was clear acknowledged the crowd with the belt and got a good applause.
Macklin had a harder night than any of us expected, it was a nice wee reminder that you dont have to be a big name to pose problems.

I agree that the decision to let Enzo continue was poor judgement. He did awfully well to even get up from a very heavy knockdown and has a history of not recovering from similar situations. I hope he calls it a day now. Nice guy who gave serious value for money, but he's a bad KO waiting to happen - I had money on Frenkel to win by KO for that very reason.

On Frenkel, I was quite impressed. I saw him before and thought he boxed quite within himself so wasn't fully sure whether he'd step it up when needed, but he has that Arthur Abraham coolness and self-belief about him. He just never seemed ruffled, even when Enzo's big bombs were flying in. His upper body defence was very impressive along with his jab. He completely outjabbed a bigger man and then threw very educated combinations at the right time. I like what I saw.

Completley agree, i was at the fight and i thought he was in control for most of the it. Enzo would try and throw huge punches but Frenkel would keep his cool and tie him up when needed, i thought he outboxed Enzo and was winning the fight before the huge K.O. It'll be interesting to see where he goes from here. His enterance music was class as well, he came into the ring to 'Tutti frutti', i was laughing my head off.
The ref was a disgrace for not stoppping it, from where i was sitting you could tell he was still shaking from the first knockdown.

Yeah, fellas, gotta agree. That ref was a disgrace for allowing a groggy and badly hurt Enzo back into action. I cannot at all see how he could justify it.

The first shot that felled Enzo was wicked, he fell heavy, was out of it and unresponsive. Not that he could have been responsive, as the ****ing ref looked like he said nothing to Enzo, and if he did, it was CLEAR that Enzo's lips never moved once.

The ref just pushed back into another wicked shot.
We are talikng about shots that can kill here. Very loaded.

IF a fighter cannot respond to a question then that should be it. Did that ref even ask a question? Serioulsy, this should be investigated thoroughly.

Mackilin beat a bum, did he not? From what I saw it looked that way. Where is Macklin going?

Chisora looked very handy. A second TKO win over Sexton.

Is it possible the ref knew Enzo personally and knowing his career was on the line, allowed him to continue when he clearly shouldn't have. obviously it was unprofessional and dangerous either way.

Regarding the Macklin fight, the guy he fought was limited but durable. We should see within the next 8 months if Macklin is World Class or just fringe World class.

I'm still not sold on Cleverly, because he continues to want to brawl, and he leaves his chin exposed at times. Against top fighters he might not get away with this.

Cleverly seems to like an auld scrap alright. Macklin should get a shot at a title soon or a big marquee fight.

Regarding enzo: the ref is paid to not think like that. I know what you are saying in that he might have held on but there was no way he was lasting more than 10 seconds when the ref let him fight on. Frenkel stood up to big macs heaviest slaps throughout the fight. Even his corner should have all ran into the ring to save him. It was just a bad call on the refs behalf, just a pity it has such a consequence.
