    Hi
I'm a student and I work the odd wknd at home. The most i'd get for a wknd is €143 and that's not every wknd.

so far my total tax deducted is 310.90, can i claim this back? and can i claim it back before the end of the year?

You can only make a claim for a tax refund if you have left this job and received a p45 from your employer and do not not intend to work again before 31st Dec 2010.

If so, download Form P50 from www.revenue.ie, fill it out and make sure you indicate on it that you are returning to college and do not intend to work again before the year end. Send P45 & P50 to local tax office.

If you're gonna staying working to the end of year, you'll have to wait till new year and request a P21 Balancing statement, but it's unlikely you'll get tax back then because unless your employer is not allocating your credits to you correctly on a cumulative basis, the tax you pay will be the tax that's due!

    Hope this helps

it's just summer work really, my last date (that i know of) will be the end of this month and then not again till next may or so.

that said, this is in the one job, if another comes up befor ethe end of the year would this affect claiming tax?

You can't do anything until you get a P45 from current employer.

You can only make the claim pre year end if you are not taking up another job - P/time or F/time

In effect you can only claim your tax back if you don't work from end sept(my last date (that i know of)) to end of December because this is the only way you will be able to utilise your tax credits to offset againist tax paid.

Are you paying tax on €143 a week?????? If so that is mad. Ring revenue and ask them are you registered as been in employment and if you are ask them if your credits are allocated to that employment. Also ask them to send out a certificate of tax credits to your employer.

When your employer receives this they will implement it and you will received your tax rebate through your wages. If you receive your p45 in the meantime, send it into your local tax office with your completed p50. Regardless if you start new employment or not, that money is due back to you so if you dont get it through your wages you will get it by submitting a p50. If you take up another job and haven't received your refund it will then come back through the wages of your new employer as Revenue will instruct that this rebate is due back to you.
