Just noticed these from a fuzz thread here with a post from dannyluvsu.
BYOC pedal that you build yourself. Are they good pedals or are they on the Boss league?

Well they're direct clones of other pedals. So if you're handy with a soldering iron they should be just as good if not better as their respective originals?

BYOC don't ship outside the US though. I think there's a supplier you can buy through in the UK but they're more expensive that way. Try Das Musikding or General Guitar Gadgets?

if you make one, it'll become addictive....
if you dont fancy making one, theres a lad on adverts selling a few different clone pedals....

havent tried or heard any of them so i cant vouch for them sound-wise, but from the pics included on the ads the wiring is well tidy

    I ordered mine from http://www.musikding.de/index.php/cat/c122_Musikding-Kits.html

Screamer kit (TS9/808 clone), green knob, decal, soldering iron (MLS-48) and desoldering braid came in at 55 Euro incl postage/VAT.. (need to swap the plug to a 3 pin plug though for the iron).

Jaysus man....they are cheap. Are they the same quality as the General Guitar Gadgets and BYOC?

Great price man. You wont regret it either. I build my own pedals from scratch and there's nothing like building a pedal that does and sounds exactly like the actual pedal for a quarter of the price.

I've never done this before and I'm clearly getting waaaay ahead of myself... But hypothetically - would it be possible to get creative with your sound when you're building a pedal? Is there a way to know what sound certain parts in a certain order might make? Or is it a case that if you differ from any schematic you're Thomas Cooked?

It is more than possible to get creative with your sound when building a pedal. Different parts do make "different sounds", but it's not as easy as that.

But with a little understanding, a breadboard and lots of time the possibilties are endless.

I would check out this forum if you are interested www.diystompboxes.com/forum

Also this item is perfect for what you are interested in doing. I have it and I cant recommend it enough. It's perfect for beginners starting off. http://www.beavisaudio.com/bboard/

You can even see my testimonial at the bottom of the yellow window on the right side of the screen.

    Good luck

lol true.. Sadly purchasing the latter means I haven't finished making my Screamer yet.. Hope to get it done in the next couple of weeks :)

Had one of them aldi soldering irons before. It only lasted a few weeks. Better bet (imo) is to see if Maplin have any offers on Antex irons. They usually have a 30 watt one for around the same price as the Aldi one but it's a much much better quality iron.

http://vibe-o-tronic.co.uk/ is the uk distro for byoc kits but ggg are just as good but a tad cheaper. Musikding are also good but the boards for a lot of their kits aren't quite as well made as the ggg ones. The Musikding ts808/9 kit has a quality board. In saying that I've not really had any problems with any of the musikding kits I've built.

My current soldering iron is one I got in either aldi or lidl I can't remember, but it's still going strong after 2 years or so of use. At a tenner you can't really go wrong.

If you're happy with the iron from Aldi then fair enough. I'm just pointing you can get a better quality iron around the same or cheaper price in Maplin.

Edit: Here's the iron, although it doesn't seem to be on special offer online right now.

The thing I like about the one they are offering this week is that it has a base with alligator clips. Extremely handy. Also I was just on their website and they are offering a three year warrenty for it. Thats very good in my book.
