Hi, moved to Galway a few months ago, and just decided I wanted to brush up on my chess (nerd that I am).

Just wondering, does anyone know of any place that sells good quality chess sets in Galway? Thinking of buying a chess clock as well, could get it online but would like to keep the custom local :)

It's Magic upstairs in the Eyre Square shopping centre have glass chess sets etc, might be something you like in there.

I haven't been in Wooden Heart on Quay Street for years, but they might have something.

If you drop out to the Galway Chess Congress in the Salthill hotel from 1st-3rd October, both Alexander Baburin and John Alfred will have stalls selling chess equipment there. The chess sets may not be terribly fancy, but it's a good bet for a decent chess clock.

Thanks for the advice all, DunJohn I ended up going to the Wooden Heart site, and bought the fourth on down on this page:

and bought the Barbarossa pieces and a chess board. Going to see if I can get an old-school clock online, none of your digital!

    Thanks for the recs!
