So ill probably get the bus into the city...Where do i go from there?

I hear theres a 128, where does that pick up and where should i be getting off?

Im not familiar with the dublin area and dont relish the idea of getting lost on day one!

Getting the Luas from Stephens Green to Milltown might be the easiest if you don't know where you're going

Don't worry, just follow the crowd from Halls! When you're leaving in the morning go out the gate turning right, and take the next right again. It's the terminus so there'll most likely be one or two buses parked there, and definitely a load of other students. Get off just after you've gone past St. Stephen's Green (a big huge park in the city centre with distinctive black railings). On your way back in the evening, go out the nassau street gate at the arts block and turn left, then stand opposite a shop called "Knobs and Knockers" and you should see the 128 when it arrives. Get off when you're back where you started! Simples :)

    But personally I recommend walking.

I'd second getting the Luas from Stephen's Green for your first time if you're unsure.

Get off at the Milltown stop, the wall/fence of Alexandra College will be in front of you as you step off. Head left down the platform, cross over where the traffic lights are and there'll be a big long road (Temple Road) to your left with pay and display all along it (it's about 10seconds from the platform). Go straight up that road all the way to the end, turn right and Halls is just there.

The Luas is a pain though, the Milltown stop's a good 10 minute walk from Halls. I hated that Luas. Especially if you have a big bag of clothes or whatever!

    The 128's surprisingly simple.

Whereabouts in town are you coming from?
If you're going from Busaras/ Conolly Station, there's a 128 stop just outside Conolly. Just find the sign with 128 on it, they're quite frequent!

If you're near Trinity, there's a 128 stop on Nassau street opposite Read's bookshop (Outside the arts block entrance into the college).

The stop for Halls is the last 128 stop, so there's no fear of getting off the bus too early or missing your stop or whatever... just stay on it until the bus properly stops and turns off it's engine!
It leaves you just around the corner from Halls, literally a 1 minute walk.

    ^^^^ Agree with the above.

The LUAS stop is too far from Halls. It's also more expensive than the bus and you haven't a hope of getting a seat at rush hour.

As mentioned already, the 128 bus is your best option. It's frequent and Halls is the final stop so don't worry about missing your stop. You can get it right outside Trinity on Nassua Street. You'll see the number 128 on the bus stop sign.

you should look it up on google maps as well, and print off directions from the bus stop/luas stop.

If you live in Halls you should get either a monthly bus pass or LUAS pass. I went with the LUAS one. It's about e37, and will also work if you want to go out to Dundrum, since that's in the same zone as Halls.

Luas stop is no way a good ten minute walk! I'd walk on my hands to it in ten minutes! 3 minutes max!

Look yourself on Google maps, it's just one end of Temple road to the other. The bus stop is on the street north of Hall, "Palmerston Park". Just outside the tennis club you can see on the satellite image.

9 minutes according to Google Maps. >_>

A ten minute walk is nothing anyway, I use to have to walk a mile and a half to my bus spot everyday. In my bare-feet. With a bag of rocks over one shoulder.

3 minutes my ass. I have only managed 4 minutes and with jogging all the way. It's about 7-8 minutes with a fast walk (i'm 6ft btw so I should be able to walk quickly).

The luas ticket option is pricier per trip, but the monthly luas ticket is very cheap in comparison. If you stay in Halls over the weekend, even more so. Otherwise the 30 day student rambler ticket from Dublin Bus is good and allows for more travel options over the day. 128 is your best bet. If you miss it and are really stuck for time, you can head over to Rathgar in the assumption you won't have to wait for a bus. It also can be quicker due to traffic lights at Tesco but it's only worth it at peak times IMO.
