Calving gate info

    Hi everyone, do any of you have advice or links regarding calving gates.Also i am looking to buy a solar electric fence for an out farm that is isolated and has no ESB any where near it.Any input appreciated!! MAYO abu customer !!!

    This is pretty much the design of them. We have one for about the last 10 years in the calving pens. A few people have looked at it and made similar ones to it. I evenmade one myself for another pen - they are not too difficult to put together. One difference between the one above an ours is the gate that swings around to hold the cow in - our gare is in 2 pieces (top and bottom which can be bolted together to make one also), you can open the bottom piece and still have a chain holding the top piece and the cow in place. This will allow you to give a newborn calf a suck without any risk to you or the calf.

    there are a few designs but basically all on the same principle as the one in reilig's link ,

    just bear in mind, to have the gate closing on the cow's left hand side (looking from behind) just in case you may have to do a caesarian section at some stage

    I agree, its very important.
    Most gates are designed to work both sides.
