It’s about four years old now, at the time of buying it was buy a pc for as cheap as I can. When I’m converting music/videos the cpu goes mad (process lasso controls it only so much) and it takes ages to convert videos (over an hour for say a normal film). I got 1Gb ram a few years ago, but apart from that, it’s as it was when I got it and still runs on xp(id still stick with xp, just upgrade the hardware).

SO basically im looking to put some more kick into it for converting files and generally speeding up load times and the ability to do more @ once, but without spending silly money as the pc cost around €600.

    Thanks for any help!

So as i am sure you know, there's not a lot of room for upgrading on t 3100c dell. It's still not a bad computer though. It's a nice size and it's quiet!

You can take out the Celeron D processor and swap it out for a pentium 4. Not really worth it unless you get that memory upgraded. Your computer will take a pair of 1gb ddr2 4200 sticks. That should set you back around 40 euro (ebay) but i would urge you to contact the seller telling them what computer you have before you buy. Your machine may require low density ram which can cost a little bit more.

Secondly, reformat. If you haven't done this since you got the computer then there is bound to be all sorts of junk piled up in there. My niece gave me her laptop last week that she was about to throw in the bin because it had gotton so slow. I have it reformatted with a clean install and it's flying!

Yes I have been talking to some lads who repaired it and they said there isnt a lot you can upgrade, but I said id throw it out there and see what people came up with.

I upgraded to 1Gb of ram using PC2-4200 CL4 240 Pin DIMM, which I found on adverts.ie, so im thinking its a standard ram? Would the pentium 4 upgrade cost much/be hard to do myself?

Its been reformatted too many times(before I found out how to image the drive etc). Its stripped right back to the basics on the c drive, then 70-80% of the programmes are portable and with my files on an external drive.
