It seems that RTE 1 is switching to Euronews overnight for a few days next week. Meanwhile on RTE 2 from 1.55 am on Tuesday morning Pages from Aertel makes a welcome return:D

Are there technical goings on happening? I remember about 9 years ago the stations were off for 7 - 11 for a week or two for upgrading of equipment.

I don't see how it could be technical issues. How do you mean Stations were off from 7 - 11? Blank screen.

I think it was the summer of 2001 roughly. RTE 1 was off from 7-11 one week and RTE 2 was off the following week again from 7-11. They showed a card saying they'd be back at 11 am, with radio one or 2fm playing in the background. It turned out that they were upgrading items in the presentation department.

Thats a while back now. Don't worry Brainbox is on the otherside.

Could be the part of the HD playout facility upgrade. This from the Technical Requirements Document
The existing Probel 128 x 64 SD Sirius router is being upgraded by a scalable replacement Snell SD/HD equivalent in advance of the new automation system upgrade. This new router will initially have the same 128 x 64 SD switching capability and in line with the current situation will be used to switch all sources to air.

    ...
The replacement of the Presentation router is currently being undertaken and will be completed in advance of the proposed HD project by others. Assurances have been furnished that the replacement router system will work seamlessly with the Aurora, Compass and Morpheus systems.

Why would transmissions of EuroNews and Aertel help facilitate this?

It would allow them to take the automation system offline and just patch EuroNews and Aertel straight onto the output.

It seems RTE didn't manage to finish this work last week as they have pulled off the scheduled programmes to transmit Euronews and Aertel tues night/wed morn
