Writing CV - education query

    Hi guys,
    *
I am starting to put together my CV and I have a few queries around the education section which I hope I can get some advice on!
    *
    1) When I first went to college directly after my leaving cert*I dropped out of my course at the end of second year and never went back to complete it. Should I still include this somehow in my cv? I know it may look like a "failure" but I did go back to college and undertake a degree in IT by night a few years later so would that compensate? If I don't mention it it will create a gap in dates
    2) As mentioned I then undertook a degree in IT by night and graduated 2 years ago. I am not currently working in IT but would like to get into that area. Should I list out my course subjects and final result seeing as I don't have any direct IT experience.
    *
I probably will have more questions but that's it for a start.
    *
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

First off I would suggest that you do put down the course you did not complete but just put the dates you attended instead of putting it as a failure.

If you are looking at getting into IT I would probably put down a selection of the modules you did and your results.

    Hope that helps...

Your CV should never say anything negative, so as chappy says, just put down the course name and dates. The fact that you went back to college to complete your degree totally makes up for you dropping out, so don't worry about it.

Listing your final results (if they're good) will do you no harm.

For experience offer to make or improve a website for a charity (for free) or something like that. Basically do whatever it takes to get some experience on your CV.

Thanks guys. If I put down that incomplete course dates I don't want to mislead people into thinking that I actually completed and qualified! Should I say something like "worked towards diploma in ......" ??

Also, my degree is an ordinary degree. I presume I have to specify this?

    Thanks again

The fact that you have put down results for one and not the other should be sufficient.Should you then get to interview stage you can elaborate if questionned on this.
