If you have a valid key you can sign MS and get a media kit sent out, or if you have a TechNet account the .iso should be on the site.

Windows keys are backward compatible so an XP Key covers 200, 98,etc.

If you have a key I would recommend bit Torrents for the Media(iso)

    Hi all,

Thanks for the answers but what I was looking to do was buy a new key for XP pro.
I have a registered copy of XP pro running on my home machine. I also have the install disc for it.
I am building a new machine and I want to put a legitimate copy of xp pro on it so I would be looking just to buy the key. Is that possible?

    Thanks again. Sorry to confuse..

Why do you want an obsolete OS on a new machine?

The software that it's being built for is not fully compatible with windows 7 yet.
I'm not going near Vista so that brings me back to XP.

The writers of the software suggest windows 2000 and they believe it was the most stable OS.

If the Software doesn't need access to the GPU, pretty sure you could get away with XP mode in Windows 7.

Thanks for the suggestion venom. Never new about the XP feature in 7.
I still would prefer to stick with what the developers suggest as they might have issue providing support on a machine that does not meet they're suggested minimum requirements.

Hmm, what software is it that you need to run?

(At the risk of sounding like a plonker..) I can't really say, as if the wrong eyes read this then I could loose a wee bit of advantage in my market...

Still sound like a plonker though

Just note that XP mode is only in pro versions and above, although I've found the compatibility to be very good only needing to tweak the compatibility options a bit to get most things working.
If you go with 2000, you could run into compatibility problems with your hardware. With XP I suppose the worst you could do is have to slipstream drivers on. 7 is nice though - maybe get a loan of the disc from somebody and try it for the 30 or whatever days before you need to activate it.

I *might* have a copy of 2k at home. I'll check later, if I think of it.

After all that the developers have said that they will support Window 7. They still think 2000 is the best OS to use so if there was one going/for sale that would be fantastic.

    Mountjoy mugger... Great sig :-)

    Thanks all.
