Why do people keep their driving test quiet?

Has anyone ever wonderedwhy some people keep their driving tests a secret?

I presume it's in case they fail and are too embarassed, but there's no shame in failing. Judging by some pass rates on certain test centres, you're more likely to fail anyway!

    Your presumption is correct.

I'd say nerves more than anything else! Don't want that extra pressure of people ringing or texting you afterwards going "Well?".

My mates were amazed when I told them I was going to do my test, got a lot of stick for it when I failed. Ah well. Most of them failed the first time, but heh, whats to stop a great big slagging match? :p

    Yes to both

My mate in Scotland told no one that he was even taking lessons :D He just announced to the world he had passed, first time.
He didn't even tell me despite my being an instructor and living over here away from him :D

So the ones that keep quiet about their test, I wonder when they do eventually pass do they let on that they'd passed first time?!

I knew a guy who failed the test first time, and everyone gave him tonnes of hassle over it. Mainly because his dad was an instructor. It was terrible. Then after a few months we suddenly noticed his L plates were gone; he had passed the second time around and just didn't tell a soul.

Definitely. I didn't tell anyone I was taking my test, apart from my OH and my ADI and I was a lot less nervous for it. I felt that if I failed it wouldn't be as big a deal because no one had to know so I wasn't too stressed about failing. I passed first time in the end and I believe that no one knowing I was taking the test really contributed to how well I did.

I kepy my most recent attempt quiet but then again, I have been cursed in the past when it came to driving test and even the days before it. And then on the day, a pretty much clear sweep.

dont want to let people down either i guess

like instead of telling everybody about your test and then failing and letting them all down that you failed.

but then if you passed and nobody knew that you even took the test then it would be a great surprise to them

I told everyone when I was going to do my first test. On the day of my test, everybody was wishing me good luck, which just made me more nervous in a way.

I failed my first test, and I obviously felt pretty bad about. I went back to school that day, and everybody asked me how I got on. They were all fairly supportive obviously, "sure lot's of people fail just apply again" etc. but I felt bad about failing and it was even worse having to tell people over and over and over again.

I applied for my second test and it arrived 4 weeks later. I told everybody the day before that I had a dentist appointment (only my family and instructor knew about the driving test). (I can't remember which day it was, but it was the morning that lots of people got up at 5am to watch the Lost finale - a Monday I think). I came back and people asked me how did the dentist appointment go, but it felt great to tell them that I was actually doing my driving test and I passed. If I had have failed, I probably wouldn't have said anything about the driving test - at least not that day.
