I'm a fresher interested in getting onto the UT newspaper; I see you can apply for it online http://universitytimes.ie/apply but it seems a little impersonal.

Just wondering if anyone on here is connected with the paper and could give me advice on this - should I wait until Fresher's week to look into applying in real life, or fire ahead with the online application? How did you get started with it?

    Many thanks!!

Apply online. Applying "in real life" will likely consist of having a nice chat with the editor or someone else involved with the paper (which you should probably do anyway if you want to) and then having them tell you to submit your details via the online form. You may as well get that part out of the way. It'll be a good ice-breaker.

You can't apply until you register in Trinity though as you need your Trinity email address.
