Price of steel guitar/second hand?

Hi all, I am thinking of buying my husband a steel guitar for Christmas (he has a regular accoustic at the moment) but am a little clueless. I am on a limited budget (would prefer not to spend more than €350) so i'm guessing that second hand could be my best option. Can anyone recommend any good websites or shops for second hand instruments (i'm in Cork). Also, are there any brands in particular I should look for (want reasonable quality but doesn't have to be top of the range)

And finally, any ideas how much I could expect to pay for a second hand steel guitar and if it is feasable to find one second hand?

Sorry about all the questions, like I said, I am clueless. Thanks in advance.

They obviously change price as quality, make etc change. But I would expect ebay would be best. for example

This one in the photograph cost less than a 100€ new including shipping from the US. I got this on ebay. Don't forget to buy a slide\tonebar too

They pop up from time to time on adverts.ie, but if you need one in a hurry I think you'd be very lucky if you found one 2nd hand. Most music/guitar shops should have one or be able to get one for around your budget price of €350.


As for brands, Fender, Regal, Johnson, Hound Dog Dobro all make good resonator guitars for reasonable prices (although I've only seen Dobro make nickel and wood, not purely chrome/nickel). I've seen a Harley Benton reso on Thomann cheaper, but I wouldn't be too optimistic about the quality.
