    Hey,

got a new laptop with basic integrated graphics but it should handle old-ish games well. I'm looking for the best freeware or free pc games out there.

I'm a big fan of Transport Tycoon so I've been playing ALOT of it, it's especially great now it's free and has a community behind it.

anything else I should check out?

Check here, http://www.abandonia.com/ for loads of games. Technically they're called Abandonware. Few gems on that site!

    EDIT: http://www.abandonia.com/en/game/Strategy

Also note that the game can only be downloaded if there's a disk icon next to "additional info". You may want to install D-Fend (http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/) to run a few if you're having any problems. But each page will give you more info and how-to's.

There were some community mods to bring Theme Hospital up to today's hi-def supporting standards. A bit of polish on the graphics and support for higher resolutions. I found my disc a few weeks ago and got this up and running and it's been pretty awesome :) You still need the original disc to play though.

Anyone ever try playing one of the free ad-supported games like Far Cry 1,
which say you need to live in the US and have a UBI-Soft account?

    http://www.gamershell.com/news_41339.html

I wonder if you could get around it with a proxy.

Anyone else getting a priveledged instruction error and the game failing to start?

I got the usp patch from westwood, and ran it in the westwood folder and the red alert folder and ran the subsequent.exe

    Anyone else get this?

    EDIT: Working!

Now I just need to get a high res patch of some sort, my blistering 5 year old toshiba brick will be great for this game :D

If you're into flight sims (well, arcade style) B-17 Flying Fortress is free.

That's excellent. I remember many nights of no sleep playing that on the amiga.
