If we had the funding....

With our recent drop out of the top 50 college's in the world being blamed on a lack of investment in education, what improvements would you make to the college if we were somehow to secure the funding?

Personally I'd like to see the supposed plans for a student centre merged with an IT centre over at Luce hall, replacing the laser huts which have been often a bone of contention with our resident forum trolls. 24 access is great and all but the heat in that place is unbearable.

More funding for socs and clubs along with removing the minimum membership fee.

How would this improve our place in the International rankings? I would slash the number of societies, starting with the segregational religious ones. This would free up money for important things like improving IT facilities, as Craguls outlined above.

I don't really care about the rankings.

Funny enough, I'd propose the complete opposite of that. Namely that the members of clubs and societies would fund themselves, and allow the university to divert those funds on the things that actually matter. The tiny minority of society hacks and apparatchiks do not deserve the privileged position TCD affords them.

It wouldn't, but neither would much else that could be suggested. The rankings are generally a bit stupid.

Certainly getting rid of any prefab of any kind, and removing as much tarmac as is possible from campus grounds. Getting rid of the stench of stale urine at the arts block entrance would also be appreciated, as would a course teaching students how to stand up to security guards who don't know their place.

I'd rather more tar mac actually. Cobbles hurt after long walks.

I never said more cobbles, but there is a middle ground between the torture of Front Square after a night of dancing and the dull monotony of tarmac:

    Fixed that for you.
It only smells like **** for like two weeks a year.
And besides, there's much better things to do with the money. Turn the pav into an elite nightclub, formal dress only with an open bar, open 7 nights!

You know a town with money is a little like the mule with a spinning wheel. No-one knows how he got it and danged if he knows how to use it! Well, sir, there's nothing on earth Like a genuine, Bona fide, Electrified, Six-car Monorail! What'd I say?

    Monorail!
