I am a sole trader and registered for vat and need to purchase a car for work.
I dont need a commerical vehicle in terms of space/storage but I'm just wondering does having a commericial car make any difference to having a private one, from a tax and vat perspective?

    Thanks.

You can claim back the VAT on the commercial vehicle.

thanks, so other than claiming the vat back on the purchase of the vehicle, everything else is the same?

Provided you are a sole trader and not a ltd company, there are no other implications that I can think of other than: you can claim back the VAT on diesel and motor tax is cheaper for commercial vehicles than private cars.
