2 days before my wedding our wedding bands and my wifes engagement ring were stolen from the jewelers. We had paid for half the the wedding bands and the engagement ring was bought in another shop was in to be polished up before the wedding. the day i was due to collect them they were stolen. now the shop is saying that the engagement ring will not be covered by their insurance as they did not own it, can this be right? surely if they have the ring in their possession and the give it out to a complete stranger and its stolen its has to be covered by their insurance, right? they have accepted full responsibility

if you have a receipt from them accepting the ring for cleaning then its their responsibility.

(note: Not legal advice - just my opinion)

Why did they do that? If they only took it in for cleaning, surely it should have been nowhere near a punter who could nick it?

Their insurance may not cover it but that is their problem, it was in their safekeeping so they are responsible for replacing it. Was it a big name shop or a small local one ?

it was a small one off grafton street. We didnt get a receipt, stupid i know. They are claiming that because they dont own it that it will have to go through our insurance

    You should consult a solicitor.
