Puncture fixed by plug/bung - how safe is this?

I got a puncture on the very edge of my tyre about five months ago and went and got it fixed "temporarily" with a rubber plug/bung being inserted into the tyre. The tyre is a 235/35 r 19 and apart from the normal slight drop in pressure there have been no problems with it, car is used as a daily driver to work so generally only does 15 miles a day there and back, but now have to go on a long journey and I'm thinking should I get a new tyre at over €100 when this seems to be going ok. Anyone have any experience of these, can they just blow out? Advice please.

id say if it has lasted this long your grand. just keep it at the correct pressure. maybe put it on the back to be safer...

imo no decent tyre place would repair it if they thought it would be dangerous
