    Hi,

I know there are a few on here who are familiar with the Wicklow Mountains. Having pretty much walked all the major tops in the Mournes, I'm going to swing the car South this time..

Looking for a 5-6hr walk. Have been up Lug (via Ballineddan and Slievemaan), Djouce + White Hill and Kippure. Thinking of doing a circuit Mullaghcleevaun + Tongalee but have read somewhere that the river crossing can be dodgy after periods of rain.

Any suggestions of a decent walk preferably taking in some of the higher tops (trying to walk all the irish 2000 footers eventually).

    Paul

The Pier Gates is a good place to start a few walks - up around Djouce or Luggala/Knocknaclohogue.

The river crossing can be dodgy, but you can park at the Glenmacnass car park and make your decision. If dodgy, Scarr & the Kanturks is easy from the same location.

Tonlagee/Mullaghcleevaun is a very wild part of Wicklow and in poor visibility is tough navigation (lots of peat hags). Keep to the right of Barnacullian if approaching from Tonlagee. Do not walk directly into Barnacullian if you're on your own, I can't stress that enough.

You could walk from Laragh (park near the Church) up the Brockaghs to Tonlagee, then back via Turlough Hill and Camaderry - that's more like a 7 hour walk. Or take a shortcut back.

The circuit of Glendalough can be done from the Glendalough upper CP. If you've never done Derrybawn, Mullacor & the Spinc you should enjoy it, one of the prettiest walks in Wicklow.
