Anyone know whats going on!? i have a dual quad core intel xeon mac pro. i just started using time machine recently and it seams to coincide with the start of the blue screens. basically im working away and suddenly the screen goes blue and the sound goes off for anything from 1-5 seconds, then it goes back to normal. thought it might be when time machine was doing a back up to start with but the timings of the blue screen is completely unrelated. only other thing ive noticed is that one of my external hard drives sounds like its starting and stopping all the time (not clicking, more like the fan/motor starts for a second and then stops). worried my computer is about to bite the dust. anyone come across this before? and know how to fix it !?
    cheers in advance

    Is it still under warranty?

Can you borrow a video card from another mac user and see if it eliminates the problem?

no. warranty is over. i might be able to bring it up to the shop and ask if i can they can put another video card for an hour. . is this a common problem with the video card?

    Hi,

Mate works in the Apple Centre in my local city(Wollongong) in Australia and he said it sounds like the video card.

i did a bit of research yesterday and found that its a common problem with the 2008 xeons . an office which bought 29 computers has had to replace 7 of the videocards already... i actually managed to fix the problem temporarily by giving my computer a good clean inside and switching my monitor to the second port. hopefully ill get another two years out of the second port. thanks for pointing me in the right direction. much appreciated
