    Hi all,

If I upgrade my laptop from windows vista to windows 7, is the recovery partition rendered useless, or can I still runn the recovery partition if necessary to restore vista at some stage. Just that I was considering purchasing a windows 7 upgrade.

    Thanks again...

    Recovery partition will stay intact.

Upgrades are Ok when they work, but they can go wonky. I personally would go the clean install of 7 route.

I was considering an upgrade as I have some good programs came preinstalled on the laptop that I wouldn't mind keeping, but clean install is definately the way to go ok.

An idea maybe to backup your music, photos, docs etc and do a clean vista install (you say some of your programs are preinstalled?) Then you have a stable platform to upgrade to 7 from.

Over time, any version of Windows degrades and breaks down. If you perform an upgrade to 7 right now, you may have an unstable "foundation" (think of an unstable house to which you wish to add an extra storey).

    Good luck!
