I was just wondering if anyone could link me to somewhere with information about the validity period or expiry of Dublin Bus tickets that don't have an expiry date printed on them.

I'm specifically looking for info on the combined Bus/Luas rambler tickets.

I've googled and searched the DB website to no avail, though that could be my poor research skills!

    Thanks in advance. :)

    .

MissLockhart,I presume you mean these types...

    http://www.luas.ie/ticket-types.php#Tickets-types-Requirements-Validity

It`s yet another of our national oddities that sees us with a relatively small city with a squazillion different ticket options to use the same modes...

If you purchse the Rambler from a DB ticket agent you MUST first validate it on a Bus Ticket Validating Machine...that will print the period of validity on it.

Note well that the current Bus/Luas Rambler vaildity is consecutive..ie from 1st to 7th straight through....unlike the DB smartcard which offers the hugely attractive non-consecutive bonus.

It may well prove more attractive to buy a DB smart Rambler and a seperate Luas ticket ?

I think she means these: http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Tickets/Tickets/2-Journey-Daily-Weekly/

They tend to have a date on the front of them. the one I bought Sunday expirres in August 2012.

    Thanks for your replies.

I mean these ones for Bus and Luas that you buy from Dublin Bus agents and must validate first on a bus, before use on a Luas:

I want to find out about how long they remain valid for when they are not yet used. They have no expiry date printed on them. There doesn't seem to be any information on this that I can find.

Miss Lockhart, when you validate the Dublin Bus period ticket it should print the from-to dates on the front panels.

However if you have validated it on a Validator which has a print or ink problem then it`s possible that your ticket has been electronically validated but remained blank on the face.

In this case the ticket will function normally up to the end of the period before giving an out-of-date alarm.

The alternative is for an eagle-eyed Busdriver to spot the blankness and enter the relevant dates manually in ink, thereafter you would use the ticket in Flash-Pass mode and simply display to driver.

However neither of these is a desireable scenario as it could lead to misunderstandings at inopportune mements.
I want to find out about how long they remain valid for when they are not yet used.

Ahhh...pardon my French...just noted your final part....

The old style Mag Stripe Pre-Paid Tickets are indeed batched and Ticket Agents would be expected to rotate stock to ensure they remain in batch sequential order...however it can happen that some less busy Agents may well be selling outdated ticket stock which can lead to validation errors.

In your case,if you have tickets to hand, the quickest way to establish validity would be to contact the DB Sales Department (8720000) and have the long individual ticket identifier number situated under the bar code on most Mag Strip tickets...this should allow them to advise you if the ticket is still in date ?

Lets know how you get on ...? :)

Thank you for the information. What an ineffiecient and inconvenient system - having to phone up and call out individual id numbers. How hard would it be to have an expiry printed on them?

I had a one day Bus/Luas rambler purchased about 8/9 weeks ago. When I tried to use it last week it was invalid and the machine stamped "Expired" on it. I was just wondering if there was any way simple way I could have checked the ticket in advance, or even if there was any information available from DB about checking ticket expiry so I could have avoided this situation. Now I know there isn't - I have to phone DB (which is not simple) and there does not even seem to be any advice or information from DB about this. Apparantly we are supposed to "just know" whether a ticket is expired or not.

    Miss Lockhart....

I would suspect that this is a case of a retailer not rotating the ticket stock.

The shelf-life should be substantially greater than nine and a half weeks( ;))

At least you can take heart from the Smart Card type having a good clear end-date prined on the face !
