Hi everyone, what has prompted me to write this is a verbal encounter I had, in fact two, tonight. I met someone firstly and when I greeted them I said a sentence but other words came out in bits of the sentence, and was not aware of it until they said it to me. Then I met someone else and the first thing I said was 'good now doing ok', without being asked how I was, when I meant to ask how they were. Its like I said their answer.
Can you see where Im going with this? Im not in control of my words and am constantly tired mentally..people often acuse me of mumbling. I struggle with everyday conversation, always stressed out about what to say, and have seriously poor concentration, eg when someone talks to me nothing goes in.. but the worst is the worry of not being able to talk, and looking like an idiot. I clearly remember feeling like a complete idiot one time I told a joke and only realised after I had got a laugh that in fact the words that came out were not in fact the punchline I wanted to say. Can anyone relate to this?
and yes I do realise that the very fact Im posting this makes me less than normal.

    hey

i think you should go see a doctor, it might be a neurological problem. i hope this doesn't scare you. unless you're on medication and its making you drowsy? i studied neuroscience for a few years and i defo think you should get checked.

    We're all friends here,

Go to your GP and you'll get a referral but I wouldn't know exactly which specialist is best for you.
    But you'll get advice anyway

And lastly relax, everyone says daft things.
Just today when it started raining I was telling my taxi driver
"the grass will be delighted about the rain, it's weather for growing farmers :o

I do this all the time, it's a kind of verbal dyslexia.....

ie I get an idea in my head but say the opposite like on a hot day when I mean to say "I'm roasting" I'll say "I'm freezing" etc

It gets worse when I'm tired or distracted but i know it can leave you feeling like a total idiot and the more you worry the worse it gets.

My sisters are the same so it makes for interesting convo when we get together:)

Are you very nervous when you talk? Are you watching everything you say just in case you mess up?

I have problems explaining things and often just explain things as if the person knows all the same things I do. So I just give them a brief description and the are usually confused.

I'm constantly watching what I say and evaluating it vs other people. This makes me unable to concentrate and I make mistakes.

TBH it's not that bad tho. I think you should go to your GP just to be sure. Especially if this is a new development.

agreed. it could be nerves. If you are a bit tense and have a sentence in your head, chances are the words will come out wrong.

It's often joked about in films, charming characters getting their words mixed up because they were concentrating too hard on what to say.

e.g. scott pilgrim : he stuck between "I have to pee" and "Who her?" & said "I have to pee on her."
