why dont more golfers carry this vital piece of kit in their bags, the amount of times i have seen golfers of all grades falling into water hazards or steep ditches to rescue their beloved pro v1 ,srixons etc etc,it is the best twenty euro you will ever spend:cool::cool::cool:

again, like having certain clubs in your bag, it is a tad embarrassing..
    and defeatist not to mention

i struggle to generate respect for players carrying such apparatus

you dont see big phil with one sticking out of his bag
in fact i dont think i've ever seen a pro with one
(altho possibly harro brings one along)

i'd say you have one though f22
i'd also say ur one of those blokes that you see hanging around the water features with your 60 ft pole retrieving anything possible

Will you post details of these poles as I have only managed to find much shorter ones?

Maybe it's just a matter of scale.

Plenty of blokes think this |
    | is 6 inches.

    (I know it's 7!)

ok, point taken, you dont see tour pros carrying retrievers,i wonder why,ahh yes they dont pay for their golf balls, theyre freebies, unfortunately were not all professionals, and hey if you dont lose a ball during a round thats great, but i still see ppl risking life and limb for a pro v1,not to mention holdin up play on the course to salvage their ball:D

The way I see it is that if I hit a ball out of bounds or in a lake then I dont deserve to get it back.

I used to play with a guy who used his extendible ball retriever to measure in "nearest the pin" situations. It took a while for us to realise why he was always winning the bet.

Could you not just ignore him for ONCE?

For once I actually agreed with some of what he had to say, but in hindsight you are correct I should have ignored him!

people with these sort of devices need to be beaten with them. If you're on your own, work away but I had better not be behind you waiting on the teebox!

I'm happy to have a retriever in my bag, guess it depends on how much water is on the course you play.

I am also happy to fish out other players balls for them too.

One day a man spotted my retriever, he asked could be borrow it, fished 12 balls out of a lake, happily put them all in his bag and handed me back my retriever - now don't think that was fair!

why were you just standing there with ur mouth open?

at the least he should have thrown you one ball, as a gesture like

worse... mine rusted and fell apart :):)

ball retrievers are banned in fota . not be used in any circumstances apparently. some old guy fell into the water at the back of the 10 th last year. by the time they got him out he was in a bad way , hypothermia etc.

    Doesn't make sense.

They'd take longer trying to get the ball out of the water with a club/their hands than they would with a ball retriever.

It's a little unfair on the poor labrador though. It might get a little claustrophobic. Still better than leaving it in a locked car I suppose.

Is this the stupidest thread ever? as soon as labradors got mentioned....me i use strictly donnay balls. I wouldn't dream of trying to retrieve (wait now...I before E except after C) one from a lake.

    What's with the snobbery?

If your ball goes into the water, you have a right to retrieve it.

For a high handicapper like me, retrievers are worth their weight in gold.

well said swampy, the anti retriever contributors here are all obviously scratch players, yeh rite

its not snobbery - just have some self respect.
if ur ball goes in the water, drop one and have another go
if you put one more in the water walk on to the next tee
    plain, simple and straight forward
