    Hello,
Couldnt find the answer to this...thought someone here might know..
Does anyone know if you are getting FIS and start self employment, how that works with FIS? Like would it completely disqualify me or would it be counted into my wages?
Im doing a home based bakery and am trying to go legit and register with the taxman but wanted to query this first..
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks
    :D

Yes, you can be self employed and claim this benefit.
you'll be means-tested and made jump through a few hoops.

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/pages/fis.aspx

"A claimant may engage in self-employment in addition to insurable employment during the period of his/her FIS claim if the nature of the insurable employment fulfils the qualifying conditions. Any income earned from such self-employment is assessable for the purposes of determining entitlement to FIS."

You should already be declaring your income to both social welfare and the revenue commissioners.

I'd question your wisdom admitting to not declaring all your income .. you are leaving yourself wide open to someone logging a report against you with social welfare , especially that you have your real name (probably!) on your facebook page.

edit: Just out of interest I looked up the rates:

as tenchi-fan has posted you can get FIS and be self employed as long as you also have insurable employment of a minimum of 19 hours p/w.your spouse/partner can be in receipt of FIS if they are working and the self employment would be counted as means.FIS will send out an inspector to you to assess your self employment so you would need everything declared with revenue .
