They might take a fat cash deposit instead? I'd imagine you'd have to pay for full CDW too.

    Collision damage waiver.

You'll find it difficult/expensive to rent a car without a c.c. with plenty of available credit, in your own name.

Have you tried asking them whether they'd accept a cash deposit?

Any reason you don't have a credit card? If you are traveling internationally, you're making things harder / less safe by not having a credit card. If you don't trust yourself with handling credit / paying off the balance on time, you can get cards that must be pre-paid before you can use the "credit".

They might but is it wise to do that in this day and age of folding companies? A major benefit of paying with a credit card is that if there is a dispute, it is fairly easy to get your money back

I hope you have that confirmed in writing that a Laser Card (only used in Ireland) is OK.
    Payment:
Payment is made on arrival and must be made by credit card and NOT a debit card. The holder of the credit card must be present and added to the rental contract.

Yes, we were using Laser in France in the supermarkets this year.

I asked a small local garage if I could rent one of their old cars off the lot last time I was stuck. The nice people said yes.

FYI, PTSB & Ulster Bank are changing their Laser cards to pre-paid Visa. Reckon AIB / BOI will follow suit.
