Those Chinese made Warn clones are fine for non commercial use, lots of places sell them, other typical brands are T-Max and Champion, a similar size Warn winch would be 3-4 times the price. Be aware that copies of Albright solenoids aren't as waterproof as the real thing (don't ask how I know )

You'll need a proper winch mounting plate or winch bumper for the vehicle, they take a lot of strain and can cost you as much as the winch. An example here http://www.plcuk.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11705 and here http://www.leylandfabdesign.co.uk/products.html
You can get standard mounting plates to weld to your own chassis or make you're own if you know what you're doing.

You'll also soon get fed up with wire rope, most offroaders use Plasma rope these days, doesn't whip if it breaks, you can knot it if it does, doesn't lacerate your hands and is easy to handle. Downside is 30m with a rated safety hook will set you back another €200 plus around €40 for a hawse (can't use a roller fairlead with Plasma rope) http://www.dborc.co.uk/goodwinch/

You're own vehicle battery will be fine if healthy, only need dual battery set up if you're doing loads of winching.

Ebay is a good source for LED lights etc, plus these - http://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk/strobe-dashvisor-lights-c-2.html

someone else will have to come up with suppliers for you in Ireland.

Mmmm, take back what I said about real Albright solenoids being more reliable, mine has gone, won't spool out. Not happy, only 18 months old and they're £60 each.

Goes to show that a winch isn't a fit and forget item, you have to maintain them.

They can be stripped and refurbished, but the fault is usually arcing damage across two poles so there mightn't be enough material there to sand back to a nice clean fresh surface (the same as you do with old fashioned distributor points).

Are you using the Heavy Duty ones, they've got bigger internal contacts?

Try recoveryandwinch.ie or even amazon.co.uk. A whole range of them there.

Haven't taken it apart yet, tried it after re-wiring my winch to move the solenoid to a more protected location under the bonnet. It is the HD one, it throws the relays OK but get no current on one contact. I Know the winch is fine.

Got to confess to a bit of muppetry :o

Solenoid is fine, winch works better if you actually put the cables on the right terminals!

Looks fairly competitive for an Irish supplier plus at least they are local if you have problems or need spares.
