Has anyone here grass reseeded and applied a post emergence spray for weeds afterwards? If so what spray did you use? Is it worth doing? Thanks ;)

I did a reseed in May, and while I didnt plan on spraying it, there was a lot of docks docks came (even though there was no docks in the field before it was reseeded). So I sprayed it with Undersown. Seems to have killed the docks anyways, not the thistles though...

Is it worth doing it - I thought so, cos some parts of it were destroyed with docks, and they'd only be worse next year...

Thanks for the replies. I'I look up those sprays, haven't even looked around yet for some.

I wonder would the end of Oct be too late to spray? I won't be putting in seed until end of this week. I've my own sprayer so I suppose if I got a good half day it'd be ok? ..... Better than waiting until the spring?

The field I reseeded hadnt been reseeded with over 30 years, maybe more, and there wasnt one doc in it before ploughing it. I cant say there wasnt docks in it, years ago. But there was some amount of em came up after the reseeding...
Is it possible they would be in the seed somehow?

I wouldnt really know a lot about it, but I can tell you from when I sprayed that Undersown, the grass took a bit of a hit as well. Of course, it all depends on weather, but your grass might be doing well to come on if the weather isnt great and then a spray will knock it back as well...
Plus - will the weeds be growing much in Oct to take in the spray? If they arent, spray wont work. Then you have October weather to contend with...
Would you be as well off to graze it, and then spray the weeds next spring, when they still young. I would imagine you would get the same kill, if you catch em early, but not run the risk of setting yer grass back too much?
Again - wouldnt know much about it, but that would be my thoughts...

You know, who've made some good points and I was thinking much the same. I had intended to graze it anyways with a few of this year's weanlings. Spray as you said would only do more harm than good this time of the year as checking the grass is the last thing I want! I think I'I wait until next spring as you suggested (maybe around St. Patricks day) and spray after applying fertiliser for first grazing before then closing for silage.

Not to be finnicky or anything, but I have always heard it said that you should spray before applying fertilizer - just in case there is a chemical reaction between the fertilizer and the spray. It could reduce the growing power of your fertilizer.

Post emergence sprays on reseeds depend on clover. If clover not important then MCPA or CMPP at 3leaf grass stage and wait till ragworth is dead. On clover swarth then Legumex or underclear at 1 leaf clover stage and 2 leaf weed stage. And prob use CMPP in knapsack after grazing off to spot treat. Teagasc now reccomend grazing off early when the grass has a good hold on soil maybe with young stock
