Just wondering what the cheapest way to insure myself on a car ive been given, a 2000 renault megane.
I'm currently insured on my mums car, which was 450 euro for the last year, the quote ive been getting for insurance on the new car is 1400 for third party,1500 for third party and theft and 1600 for fully comp.
Someone metioned making one of my parents the named driver on the new car?
Not really sure how to go about it and how to make it as cheap as i can!
    Cheers

Phone book out, ring every company and broker you can find. Only way to get the cheapest quote. Some say adding a female driver to the policy as a named driver might reduce the cost, so if your mother/sister/ladyfriend has a full license then try it and see what happens.

I don't think that would get you a better quote to be honest. It wouldn't have when I started driving but things may have changed since for all I know...as with a lot of these kind of things it may vary from one insurance company to the next too though. If you were to put a parent (who was a lesser insurance risk than yourself) as the main driver on the policy then you would get a cheaper quote....but such would be insurance fraud if they were not the main driver of the vehicle and I am not condoning such practice for one minute either.

As djimi said I think the best thing to do is set aside an couple of hours, reach for the yellow pages and ring as many brokers and insurance companies as possible. Don't think theres really any very easy answers. You might save a few quid going under a parents name but in the longterm your probably better off biting the bullet, taking out the insurance in your own name, drive carefully and build up your no claims bonus. If your pretty young and especially for males your going to be hit with a high enough premium when you take out a policy in your own name in any case.

Also, if your only on a provisional license I would advise trying to get the full license as soon as possible. If you get your full license part way through the insurance year you would probably qualify for a cash rebate.
