Blocked kitchen sink

The sink in my kitchen has become blocked, I really should have bought one of those filters you sit on top of the plug hole to stop food etc going down.

I think I should probably also have been putting used ground coffee in the bin instead of down the sink.

At the moment the sink is almost full and there's nothing blocking it sink side of the plug hole that I can remove to release the water so I've tried with a wire coat hanger down the hole but it hasn't done anything.

The landlord lives at the bottom of this house but I'd rather not have him up in my flat. Is there a quick, cheap easy way to fix this myself? Maybe something like an electricians fish tape to remove the jam, or some solution that I can pour down it to break up whatever the blockage is?

I'm concerned that if I empty some clearing solution into it that it won't get down to the problem because as I've said the sink is almost full at the moment, maybe that won't matter?

Mr muscle actually gets right into it. So you can start there... but before you rush out and buy it.

A couple of quick DIY tricks that do work so dont take the p

If you have a hand blender put it over the waste hole and switch it on. The suction frees it up

Althernativly press the palm of your hand down over the hole...the suction created frees it also..

If all that fails you might have to disconnect the s trap or bottle trap underneath the sink

If you use the blender make sure the chain off the sink is held back

What our new modulator said (Joey)

If nothing quick does it, then whip off the U bend under the sink and clean it out. Should sort the problem

Tried with my hand but it wasn't creating the suction, that said using a plastic bag with my hand did create suction but not enough.

This morning I found a cheap flimsly plastic handled non-red-rubber plunger under my sink and together we defeated the now starting to smell blocked sink! :D

    Thanks for the tips lads.

Oh, just in case the local hardware store doesn't have does filters you sit atop the plughole to prevent food etc going down, where can one get one in Dublin city centre?

You will more likely get them in the likes of homebase or woddies...Doubt you will get them in many places...a lot of sinks dont need them as they have strainer stoppers.

Mine obviously doesn't though cause it got blocked, right? Think I know what a strainer stopper is.

You might get them in the likes of tesco's or dunnes, they occasionally have them on little strips attached to the shelves with something like 'don't forget' stuck to the top of it.
