What do you want to do with it? Upgrade the hardware or software? Go to Applications > System Tools > System Monitor, switich to the first tab "System". What does it say?

    is it ubuntu pre-installed ?
if so you may want to download the "non-free" codecs, ie flash, etc

launch Applications > software centre and search, "ubuntu restricted extras"... it'll do the rest !
or if its an older version of ubuntu and you have no Software Center, it'll be in Applications> add/remove programs..search

yes there is a slight learning curve coming from windows, but its dead easy really when you get into it !
