Is there an Alfa Romeo Club in Cork?

    Hi There,

Strange request but I'm getting married to my Italian fiancee next year in Cork.

I was wondering if there was any classic Alfa Romeo owners who would allow me to drive their Alfa with my wife from the church to the hotel (about a 25 minute drive). I would naturally be happy to transfer my insurance etc over and make a donation to the owner for the use of the car.

Anyone know of any Alfa owners club around Cork that I could put this request to?

    Thanks,
    RR

you could also ask on classiccar.ie or octane.ie

for insurance reasons I doubt you could drive the car. you are more likely to be able to "hire" the car and the driver for the day.... except not many Alfa drivers do this as the demand is for the Rolls etc.

I used to have a 1976 Alfa... there are not many classic Alfa drivers in Ireland, but they are all very friendly :)

also, you could try www.lanciaireland.com ... obviously also Italian cars... there might be a few more of them down that way... plus they tend to know alfa owners. Same goes for Fiat.

You might as well cast the net wider and try all italian makes... not many Alfa's around.

Also, the Northern Ireland Italian Motor Club might know somebody. www.niimc.net

is probably you're best bet, although other than the meets organised on that forum, I'm not aware of any other dedicated Alfa clubs/events.

The Italian Stallions section of Octane is worth a look as well-might get some response.

Thanks Guys, I'll check them out and see what the story is.

Would be happy with any classic italian car. But obviously Ferrari/ Maserati are not going to be fiesable budget-wise. Hoping to maybe arrange something locally if possible as we are hoping to do it a bit cheap and cheerful - hence not going down the Rolls route.

Wasn't sure about the self drive aspect -that is something I would like to do rather than have a driver, but if there are insurance issues then I might need to look into it further.

    Appreciate the help.

Not just insurance issues.... these are old cars and are not exactly the same to drive as modern cars. I would not like anybody else driving my car. Even if insurance did pay up, there are sentimental reasons for owning cars... and alot of cars have a high value because they are original, i.e. the parts have not been replaced and repaired over the years. Also, if something does break it can take time to find source replacement parts etc etc etc

Best of luck with the search.

If you do find somebody then for the love of God have somebody in the family with a snazzy car on standby with the car washed!!!!

Thanks Merc3, Sure, I understand that as well. Makes sense.

I found this place that do self drive. But they are pretty pricey.

I'll see what I can find. May not happen though so I might have to get the Ford Focus washed and replace that missing hubcap!
