Wireless Dropping off, Windows problem

    Hullo there everyone,
Well I've got something juicy for you to take a crack at today if you please, my Windows install seems to be dropping off my wireless every few seconds/minutes.

The card is an 'Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN'. using Windows 7 x64.

How do I know it's a Windows problem and not a faulty card? Well firstly I've checked the connections on the physical card and secondly, I've got Ubuntu on the same hard disk and it's connection is flawless, it's not dropping off at all.

What seems to happen is it starts loading a page then loses connection, recconnects and continues to load, however, this doesn't help with youtube videos for example where it loads about 20 seconds then dies off.

I've done all the usual things, rollback driver, update driver, uninstall device, remove network from the wireless settings and join again, make sure the computer can't turn off the device to save power.

Nada, nothings working. At this stage I'm considering reinstalling but I'd rather not if at all possible since it is a relatively new install anyways, about 2-3 months old at most.

Have a look at this thread and see if the Winsock fix in particular helps,

Should have mentioned I'm on Windows 7 (x64), silly me.

I reset the winsock just there through the command prompt it came up that it was sucessful and told me to reboot, rebooted, but it didn't have any effect, sadly.

Open the Start menu and type in "Power Options". In the Power Options window click on Change plan settings for the power plan that you have selected. Then click on Change advanced power settings.

In the list of options double-click on Wireless Adapter Settings and then double-click again on Power Saving Mode. If it isn't already, change the setting to "Maximum Performance".

    Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the reply, I hadn't thought of checking there directly but more-so in the more technical area's, but my power option is always on Maximum Performance anyway :/

Are you using intel's wireless connection utility or windows?

Try switching between the two to see which works better, but make sure only one is active at a time. I've seen that cause problems before.
